I got these along with the Dakar2 jacket for hot weather riding. The vents work well without the liner in the pants, but be aware that the mesh portions can be a bit 'see-through' - you might feel the sun on your thigh as you're riding. For the price, it's definitely worth adding the optional hip protectors. Doing so doesn't impact the overall fit or comfort. While I have not yet used the 'in-out' liner, I appreciate that flexibility, and it was a feature that helped me decide to go with the Ventouring 3 pants. Hard to go wrong with a product this solid at this price!
