I research all my gear thoroughly, and these pants were no exception. I was in the market for slim fitting, protective, not-too-astronaut-like touring pants -- and these are *the best* option out there. To be honest, there are great competitors that are protective, but the Patriots are slim fit for a skinny person like me. When I first got these and put them on, I was amazed at the quality of materials and how well they fit me. They're also pretty low key looking -- the armor is definitely noticeable, but otherwise they just look like tailored, high quality cargo pants. I wear these 4-seasons, in the summer I open the thigh vents, in the winter I wear long underwear and use the waterproof liner. My only complaint about these pants is the waterproof liner: like all liners, it is a pain. (If it rains where you live, buy waterproof overpants.)

The good: - Pants look very good. - The pockets, especially the hand pockets, are big so you can easily fit things like wallet, keys, smartphone. - The bottom of the pants have a nice big zipper that allows for easy fitting, inside or outside the boots. The bad: - Fitting is slim, I had to buy XL when I normally wear L, and because of this the pants are very big at the waist. Size L on the other hand doesn't fit me because I have bigger legs. - There are no belt loops, I had to sew some because I can't wear the pants without a belt. - The thigh vents are useless. They're perpendicular to your leg and almost no air flows through. Maybe only when you're in a sport position, when your thighs are hit directly by the wind, but in a more upright position the venting is very limited. - The inner liner is hard to use. Lots of staples to engage, and like all inner liners, impossible to put on if caught in a rain. More effective at cold temperatures, but since the pants are slim fit, you'll struggle even more with the liner in. All in all, I would not buy these pants again.
